Balloch brothers catch Scotland boss' attention with rugby challenge

Balloch brothers catch Scotland boss' attention with rugby challenge The rugby season may have been cancelled, but that hasn’t stopped two Loch Lomond players catching the eye of Scotland coach Gregor Townsend.  Sport mad brothers Callum, 13, and 11-year-old Sam Crumley from Balloch posted a rugby challenge video on Twitter, hoping to keep their teammates entertained and sharp during their time away from the pitch.  However, it proved a big hit online registering more than 13,000 views and attracting praise from Townsend, below, which left the boys amazed.  Sam told the Lennox Herald: “We thought it would only go out to the club, but to see it get to 13,000 people including Gregor Townsend, we were really happy to know that many people have seen it.  “You can’t really put into words how surprised we were when he commented on it. We didn’t think such big stars would see us and post a comment that they thought it was really good.”  Callum added: “We were trying to keep everyone connected with the rugby club involved. The players love coming along to training. They love their games – just everything involved so we just wanted evidence that everyone was still out there.  “It was just a way of mixing with each other while they are still under lockdown.”  In response to the youngsters’ first video, Townsend said: “Excellent challenge lads and really good coaching points.”  Dumbarton man's family informed after body is found  And to prove it wasn’t a one-off, he kept an eye out for their second challenge which again earned praise.  The 82-times capped former Scotland international said: “Well done again lads - like the variation on this activity. Keep up the good work.”  Proud dad Euan paid tribute to the boys for finding a new way to spend their time.  Workers "distraught" over Dumbarton care home coronavirus deaths  He said: “It’s great because of the enthusiasm they’ve shown getting the project together.  “They absolutely love their sport and rugby has been at the top of their charts so to take the idea and see it through using their own imagination and their own thoughts is great.  “We’re hoping to involve other players from the club but I’m really, really proud.  “They’ve focused on what they can do rather than what they aren’t able to do so to put that positive spin on the situation has been fantastic.”  While the brothers, who are both scrum-halves, agreed who they would love to see take part in one of their challenges.  Sam added: “We’d both like George Horne to give it a go.  “If Gregor Townsend has seen it then maybe he could show it to the Scotland team.”   For more local news, click here Balloch brothers catch Scotland boss' attention with rugby challenge
