When pianos haven't been in use for a while and are in a cold slightly damp atmosphere the action can seize up a little, causing it to be heavy. In this case, the Feurich had a down-weight or about 58-60 grammes. Lubricating the hammers with Protek reduced this to about 56 grammes and hopefully lubricating the centre rail hole with talc or Teflon powder will further reduce it. After that, we will also lubricate the rollers in the same way.
By the way, we don't remove all the hammers to lubricate but lubricate from above, unless the hammer is particularly tight. On some pianos, in extreme cases the centre pins may need replacing.
