Michael Gove on PM's letter outlining 'stronger' lockdown measures if needed

Michael Gove on PM's letter outlining 'stronger' lockdown measures if needed Boris Johnson has written to Britain’s 28million households pledging to help them beat the virus pandemic. The PM wrote: "Things to get worse before they get better".

Michael Gove warns the government may have to implement stronger lockdown measures to flatten the curve. 1:56

He said: "There are different projections as to how long the lockdown might last.

But it's not the case that the length of the lockdown is something that is absolutely fixed.
It depends on all of our behaviour. If we follow the guidelines, we can deal more effectively with the spread of the disease."

Mr Gove also said the government will implement stronger rules if needed.

Mr Johnson — who has been in total isolation since testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday — is desperate to raise the nation’s spirits as we enter the second week in lockdown.

It comes as the UK’s coronavirus death toll rose to 1,228 after another 209 people died from the outbreak today.
