Off To the Parade!
Bang the drums and beat the horns and jump around in pairs.
Stop the wagons! Hoist the children high into the air!
Everybody gather round, and part the middle lane,
now the time has come my friends to watch THE GRAND PARADE
that satisfies the merry souls who line up on the streets
to watch the floats pass by with moats or cannons painted green
and all the horses, oh the horses, like you've never seen
trot along in front of marching bands and cadillacs,
and tootsie rolls and jolly souls are everywhere in packs!
Did I mention...the fire engine!?
Fold the chairs out, put the visor over your sunburnt nose
and watch the queen of the whole parade pass by as if a rose
and catch the frisbees and the tshirts and the water balloons
and let the youngest children and the babies with cute spoons
have their choice of candy when the aftermath is rooms
full of families frolicking along fun afternoons
that never ever really end because they feel soooo good!
The day has begun, the moment has sprung,
the laughter is waiting to start.
Every one older than dirt can feel young
down deep in the pit of their hearts
because nostalgia in shock waves is flung
from off of the line of live art
that presses through town and departs.
Now is the instant the sun is at peak
and strangers and good friends starting to speak,
as if there's no difference between them, will find
respite from stressors stitched into their minds.
Let's all go to the dazzling parade,
let's be the very line!
I don't know if you will go, but as for me, YAWHOOOOO!
This year I hear that Britney Spears is going to be here too,
and even scooters glistening with glitter, golden-hued,
and while the heat defeats the breeze the atmosphere's unglued,
I want to close my eyes to solitude
and let the Love of the commonwealth exude
throughout me, and there's just no time to lose!
There's going to be so many things to see and taste and do;
I'd love to be up on the float, high up, now wouldn't you?!
