Conservative politicians and commentators are calling the BLM rallies selfish, indulgent and reckless. I disagree. While not risk free from a health perspective, this was the right time to take a stand against institutional racism for maximum impact. We've been selfish and indulgent not addressing Indigenous rates of incarceration and deaths in custody. Your life experience, your risk of being imprisoned, and your lifespan, should not be determined by the colour of your skin.
